Palantypists
What is a Palantypist?
Palantypist is another word for Speech to Text Reporter (STTR). A palantypist is qualified and trained to improve communication for Deaf people. They use a Palantype machine and short hand code to record each person's comments. This is a communication method used by Deaf People who prefer to access communication through written English text, or in supplement to BSL communication as an aide memoir.
- Palantypists can be used for any setting and any sized meetings.
- They can use colour and fonts that suit the Deaf or Deafblind person.
- A copy of the transcript is available to a client, on request, after the assignment has taken place.
- If a verbatim Court reporter is specifically required, please inform us.
Palantypists will be registered with us and additionally, with a minimum of one of the following bodies
- The British Institute of Verbatim Reporters
- The Association of Verbatim Speech to Text Reporters
- The National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People (NRCPD)
- Palantypists' registration is confirmed against their registered body.
- A valid CRB may be requested.
- Available Nationwide.
- ID shown to the client (BIVR, AVSTTR, NRCPD)
- Either
- Short notice,
- Emergency,
- Planned Appointments,
- Difficult Assignments,
- Regular Bookings,
- Blocked bookings or Contract also available.

- Our Administration Officer will ascertain your requirements.
- We will then contact you with availability and a Quotation.
- We will provide you with our bookings-related Terms and Conditions.
- The booking will be confirmed, with details of our payment process provided
