DEAF INTERPRETER
What is a Deaf Interpreter?
A Deaf Interpreter works either alone with a client, or as part of a team, with a British Sign Language Interpreter, to ensure the best translation possible, within more complex cases.
-
Deaf Interpreters’ are skilled in two or more sign languages (e.g. BSL, ASL, LSE, LSF, etc)
-
Deaf Interpreters translate from English text to BSL or other sign languages
-
They translate to deaf clients, who have complex language needs and/or Minimal Language Skills, in a way that the subtleties of communication are more easily understood.
-
As native BSL users, Deaf Interpreter’s may have a greater range of BSL available, with which to interpret.
-
This means they can work in more complex, difficult assignments, such as Mental Health. These areas require a clearer comprehension of BSL, as the processes involved rely heavily upon the language used. The Deaf Interpreter acts as ‘bridge’, between the Deaf client and the hearing interpreter, resulting in a more accurate BSL / English interpretation.
Deaf Interpreters, who registered with us, are either already registered with ASLI / NRCPD, or have a Certificate or Diploma in Level 6 BSL. Additionally they will have extensive experience of interpreting.
